About the Web Server Monitor: This service is provided by David Bowen at WSU's Department of Interdisciplinary Studies (313-577-1498 / d.r.bowen@wayne.edu). The web servers listed here are checked every five minutes. This service reports on the status of all web servers for which I have received a request, provided that the Server Administrator does not object to the monitoring, which is unobtrusive. Please send me your suggestions for improving this service. (Wayne State University maintains another monitor at http://computing.wayne.edu/systemstatus/, which keeps track of Blackboard, online class schedules, Pipeline and Banner and Cognos.)

If the server is listed as OK in the table above, but you have problems anyway, try reaching another WSU web server such as http://www.wayne.edu (Home page for Wayne State University) or any non-WSU web server such as http://www.google.com (Google search engine). If you can reach Google but not any WSU web servers, the University Internet may be down. If you cannot reach any web server, inside or outside the University, the problem is probably either with your Internet connection or your computer (but then you cannot reach this monitor service either). Try redialing your modem, then try rebooting your computer. If the problem persists, contact the WSU computer help desk at 313-577-4778 Mon - Fri 8 AM to 8 PM.

Even if the server is listed as OK in the table above, you can still get error messages if:

The web page you request is not available (error codes 400 to 499),
OR
If access is restricted and you do not have permission to read it (error codes 300 to 399),
OR
The server has some kind of internal error (error codes 500 to 599).

In these cases, also get in touch with the contact person listed above for that server.

One additional possibility is that the server is working well, but the phrase that the monitor looks for in the server's home page has been changed, without an update being made to the server monitor. Let me know about that.
